Welcome to part one of our Insights Academy. You’re set up and ready to go, so let’s dive in a little deeper and start getting the scoop on what your competitors are up to. In this academy series we’re going to look at a few key update areas:

  • Web

  • Ads

  • Blogs and social

  • Filters

  • Kompyte’s unique (and awesome) metrics

Updates
This is your inbox for everything Kompyte detects on your competitors' web pages, ads campaigns, blogs and social media channels.

*Tip* - you can open any section from the main menu drop-down list or you can toggle between sections using the left-to-right tabs in the window.

Let’s start with the Web section - this is your inbox of updates in chronological order, detailing which competitor has made an update, and which labeled page has been updated (e.g. home, pricing, policy). To find the info you need more quickly, filter your inbox by company, by date, by label, or by tag or state (more on those last two in a moment).

Click on an update to open it up. Here you’ll see the update(s) that your competitor made to this webpage. You have a Before & After split screen with updates highlighted in red (before) and green (after). You can also view the Before and After screens individually.

Click on the red or green update to zoom into it. Below you’ll see that we’ve identified the update, e.g. ‘content removed’, ‘content added’. Take a second now to make a note of the update by using the note section to the right where it says ‘write a note’. Talk about the update, use #hashtags to start grouping types of update into filterable tags, and @mention your team members to alert them to what’s happening.

Something like this:

‘FYI @George price change - Competitor A increases minimum price for product B from $39.99 per month to $44.99 #pricechange’

Your note will appear above in the notes column, underneath the update in the updates inbox, and in the Notebook section of Kompyte.

Finally, highlight this update by clicking the star-shaped Highlight icon to the right - or if it’s an unimportant update for you, archive it by clicking the Archive icon. Your ‘state’ filter in your updates inbox filters these important posts.

*Tip*

Across the top you have a timeline of the page over the last month, with any previous updates to this page viewable by clicking on any circled dates. A black circle indicates an update, and it will turn red if you highlight or write a note for the update. Click the red calendar icon to the right to scroll back through the months for past updates.

One last little detail here - in the top left you’ll see which ‘zone’ of the webpage this update belongs to. If it’s in the ‘visible zone’ - you guessed it - that means the update is visible on the page. If it’s in the ‘user interaction zone’ then the update is visible only after a user interacts with the site, like hovering over a drop-down menu or image.

That's all for now on web updates! In our next academy, we'll take a closer look at the Ads section.
